RAWALPINDI: A four-month-old infant was burnt alive while four others including a woman, sustained burn injuries after being trapped in two gas leak fire incidents in Gulraiz Colony and Dhamial area on Wednesday.

Two separate explosions due to gas leakage occurred in different areas of Rawalpindi, in which a total of four people were injured. Upon receiving information, Rescue 1122 teams immediately reached the spot and started rescue operations.

The first incident took place in Gulshan Iqbal Dhamial road, where an explosion occurred due to a fire caused by a gas leakage in a house. As a result, a four-month-old, Zainab, daughter of Zeeshan, was burnt alive, while Faisal, 21, sustained 18 per cent, and Ms Fouzia, 50, sustained 20 per cent burn injuries.

Rescue and medical teams immediately provided first aid to all the victims present at the scene and later shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for further treatment. As many as 10 rescue personnel in four emergency vehicles participated in the operation,

The other incident took place in the Gulraiz area when the electricity button was turned on; as a result, a mighty explosion occurred. Two people sustained burn injuries after being trapped in the fire.

Due to the explosion, window glass came crashing down, while households were damaged. The firefighters from Rescue 1122 controlled the fire and shifted the injured Tariq, 30, and his wife, Ms Yasmeen, 35, to the Holy Family Hospital.

Meanwhile, Media Coordinator Rescue Rawalpindi Muhammad Usman Gujjar has issued an advisory for citizens, urging them to take special precautions while using gas heaters and stoves during the winter season.

In case of smelling gas, never press the power button or light a fire, but immediately open all doors and windows to ventilate the house and move the family to a safe place. The spokesman said that most accidents caused by gas leakage are the result of minor negligence, which can be avoided through timely precautions.

In any emergency situation, immediately report to the rescue helpline 1122. Accidents are increasing due to the use of gas heaters and stoves in homes.

Timely precautions are the only guarantee of protecting lives. Any carelessness in using gas appliances can be dangerous. In case of an accident, immediately report it to the rescue helpline 1122.
