CHINIOT: The Crime Control Department (CCD) claimed on Thursday to have arrested two outlaws in an injured condition during an encounter near the Sargodha Road bypass.

Reports said a CCD team, led by Sub-Inspector Ghulam Muhammad Jappah, was patrolling the bypass when they spotted four armed men on two motorcycles emerging from the River Chenab side. When signalled to stop, the suspects opened fire on the police party.

The officials took cover behind their vehicle as the attackers continued to fire. One bullet struck the bulletproof jacket of ASI Ghulam Abbas. In response, SI Jappah ordered his team to return fire in self-defence. During the chase, one of the motorcycles struck a roadside tree, causing two suspects to fall and sustain injuries. The remaining two accomplices managed to escape toward the river Chenab.

The arrested suspects were identified as Anwar and Qasim Ali, of Mohallah Noorwala, Chiniot. Police recovered two pistols from them. Both suspects were shifted to the DHQ Hospital.

The CCD has registered a case against the suspects under sections 324, 186, 353, 440, and 34 of PPC and section 13-2-a of Punjab Arms (amendment) Ordinance 2015.

Initial investigations suggest the suspects were involved in a series of nighttime highway robberies targeting truck drivers transporting sand from the Chenab.
