TAXILA:At least 11 people, including four children, were mauled by “rabid”dogs in Sadat Colony and adjacent areas in Wah, according to local officials.

The injured were rushed to the Wah General hospital where they were provided necessary first aid as well as Anti-Rabies Vaccination.

The children were attacked on the face and forehead while the elders on hand and legs.

Talking to Dawn, the MS said that all the injured were referred to Rawalpindi for treatment and tests. The other injured were taken to other hospitals in the area.

According to local notables, they tried to kill the dogs, but in vain. “The information we have gathered from a dozen patients indicated involvement of a single street dog that’s highly suspected to be rabid,” said Asif Shah, a resident of the area. He told Dawn that the dog was reportedly foaming.

The cantonment board Wah authorities swung into action and launched a search and strike operation in the area to eliminate stray dogs.

According to officials, as many as 16 stray dogs were culled to save the local residents from rabies.
