LAHORE: The city district administration in collaboration with the Lahore Metropolitan Corporation have shifted hundreds of buffalos, cows, goats and other animals outside the city limits during a Suthra Punjab drive here on Saturday.

According to Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza, the district administration following chief minister’s Suthra Punjab programme launched several operations in the city and demolished as many as 150 illegal cattle pens with heavy machinery in various areas of Nishtar Tehsil.

He said that during operations, the teams shifted over 600 cattle outside the city limits.

“Keeping cattle in residential populations will not be allowed at all to provide a clean environment to citizens, as these pens are a major cause of sewage and cleanliness issues,” the DC said after attending a meeting on cattle eviction operations here on Saturday.

He ordered all assistant commissioners to monitor their areas on a daily basis and ensure strict legal action against those bringing back cattle or engaging in illegal construction of pens.

“Such steps by the district administration aim to restore the beauty of Lahore and align the cleanliness system with international standards to provide a healthy environment to the public at large,” he said.

Meanwhile, the DC inspected cleanliness and sewage arrangements in a factory in Hussainabad on Multan Road and adjacent areas during a surprise visit. The Raiwind assistant commissioner gave a briefing on cleanliness, drains, and development works.

The DC said that providing the best facilities to citizens was his top priority and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.

He ordered the LWMC to remove debris from streets and highways and utilise all resources to make the city waste-free. He also directed Wasa officials to complete the task of covering manholes and desilting drains on an emergency basis. He ordered the officers of all institutions concerned to remain active in the field, stating that no compromise would be made on the standard of cleanliness.

TRAIN SCHEDULE: The foggy weather on Saturday caused disruption in the operation of various trains across all divisions of the Pakistan Railways including Lahore, Karachi, Sukkar, Multan, Rawalpindi, Quetta and Peshawar.

According to official sources, the cold weather caused delays in the departure of various trains, including the Karachi and Karakoram Express trains from Lahore to Karachi on Saturday.
