KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori on Sunday urged Karachiites to donate generously to the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

He said the organisation deserved far greater public support for its impartial humanitarian work at a time when Sindh continues to face recurring climate disasters, health emergencies and widening social distress.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a humanitarian diplomacy conference organised by the PRCS Sindh on its 78th foundation day.

He said Karachiites donated huge sums annually to non-government organisations, but PRCS did not receive its due share despite helping people in need without any discrimination.

“Karachiites donate over Rs125 billion annually to NGOs. They donate around Rs24bn to Saylani Welfare Trust and over Rs32bn to JDC, but the Pakistan Red Crescent Society also deserves strong support because it serves suffering humanity without considering religion, caste or creed,” he said at the event held at the Institute of Business Administration Karachi, Garden Campus.

The conference brought together national and international experts and featured four sessions on humanitarian diplomacy in health, climate change, disaster risk reduction and international humanitarian law.

Sindh Ombudsman Sohail Rajput, PRCS-Sindh Chairman Rehan Hashmi, Secretary Kanwar Waseem and others also spoke.
