MANSEHRA: A government-run school in Shitial area of Upper Kohistan, which had been functioning in the open after its prefabricated structure was destroyed in a windstorm, has now been shifted to tents.

“We have provided tents to education department not only for this school but also for other institutions that were left without shelters after the August windstorm,” Upper Kohistan Deputy Commissioner Tariq Ali Khan told journalists on Tuesday.

The primary school, which was operating on the premises of Government High School Shitial, was destroyed by the windstorm and had continued to operate under the open sky for months.

“I recently visited the school where students were still attending classes in the open. We have now provided the required tents. Continuing education in open is almost impossible become of severe cold, especially in the morning,” said Mr Khan.

He said that Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) supplied tents for schools and homes damaged during the natural calamity. He said that middle, primary and high schools relocated because of Dasu hydropower project were currently being accommodated in rented buildings.

CRACKDOWN: Police on Tuesday launched crackdown on narcotics peddlers to protect youth from ice drug and other contrabands.

“I want SHOs of all 17 police stations to show tangible results in the ongoing crackdown launched across the district on drug pushers destroying our generation,” DPO Mohammad Azhar Khan told police officials during his maiden visit to Oghi police station.

He said that cameras installed in and around the police station should be in working order.

The DPO said that police should be vigilant and all outlaws should be apprehended and brought to justice. “The search and strike operation initiated across the district should be fruitful and those harbouring strangers or providing houses to them without meeting legal formalities should be taken to justice under relevant laws,” he added.

He said that the control room established at district headquarters was also monitoring social media. He also visited dispute resolution council of Oghi and reviewed the cases settled by it.
