LAHORE: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that the entire country is currently discussing the 27th Amendment, after this, the 28th, 29th, and 30th amendments will also come, but even after all these amendments, the rulers will not be able to escape the grip of the law.

He expressed these views while speaking at the Lahore Press Club’s programme “Meet the Press” on Tuesday.

On this occasion, Lahore Press Club acting President Afzal Talib, Secretary Zahid Abid, members of the governing body, and JI Deputy Secretary (Information) Sajid Namus were also present.

Mr Rehman said that the JI had rejected all such amendments.

“The time is near when these amendments will be reversed, and sovereignty belongs only to Allah; no individual is exempt from accountability,” he said.

He said that the PML-N, the PPP, or the MQM were all allies of one another. He said that there was a system of oppression in the country, and JI’s ‘Ijtima-e-Aam’ would be the starting point of a movement to change this system.

He said if the rulers closed the doors of justice, courts would be held in the streets, leading to anarchy.

Speaking about the local body elections in Punjab, he said that even greater irregularities than horse-trading may emerge as a result of these elections. He said that JI would raise its voice against these non-party elections.

He said that local body and students’ union elections were the nurseries of democracy, but the government had imposed a ban on their elections which had led to the failure of democratic institutions in the country.

Speaking on the issue of Palestine, Mr Rehman said that Pakistan should speak about one state — a single Palestinian state — and this had been their stance from day one.

The JI emir said that from Nov 21 to 23, millions of people would gather at the Minar-i-Pakistan with a firm resolve to make Pakistan a true Islamic and democratic state. He said that more than 200 delegations from 40 countries would participate in its congregation. This ‘Ijtima-e-Aam’ would be the largest in Pakistan’s history, with hundreds of thousands of women also taking part, he added.
