UMERKOT: Two lawyers engaged for the alleged extrajudicial killing case of Dr Shahnawaz Kunbhar — who was arrested in a blasphemy case and killed on Sept 19, 2024 — were allegedly attacked while traveling to Mirpurkhas for a hearing of the case on Thursday.

Advocates Ibrahim Kunbhar and Ejaz Halipoto claimed that they were on their way to the Anti-Terrorism Court in Mirpurkhas when three suspects riding a motorcycle opened fire on them near Soofi Faqeer locality.

They said they escaped unharmed and the assailants sped away after firing shots at them.

“They first crossed our vehicle and then waylaid us while we were passing by Banglani village,” they said, adding that “the suspects fired shots directly at us”.

Advocate Kunbhar believed that the attackers might have acted at the behest of the main accused in the case, pertaining to the alleged extrajudicial killing of Dr Kunbhar.
