HYDERABAD, June 1: The Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, on Wednesday directed the Taluka Municipal Administrations (TMAs) of Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad city and Qasimabad to submit quarterly reports on steps taken by them in their talukas about elimination of stray dogs after Sindh Secretary of Health, Prof Dr Noshad. A. Shaikh, informed the court that the National Institute of Health (NIH), was unable to fulfil requirements of dog bite vaccines of the province.

The court also directed the TMAs to inform as to what scientific methods for elimination of stray dog were taken so that such incidents are avoided.

The order was passed by the bench comprising Mr Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Mrs.Yasmin Abbasey while disposing of a constitutional petition, filed by Advocate Amanullah.

The petitioner had cited the three TMAs and the secretary local government as respondents.

He said that on May 30, 2005 like other persons, a dog bite victim Riaz Ali son of Ismail, a resident of Mirpurkhas, died as a result of lack of medical facilities.

He said that people were experiencing difficulties and some of them had lost their lives and others were seriously wounded.
