KARACHI: Eminent painter Ghalib Baqar died here on Friday morning. He was 69.

His namaz-i-janaza was held at Ancholi Imambargah after Zuhar.

Born on April 14, 1956 in Karachi, Baqar graduated from the Karachi School of Art in the mid-1970s.

According to information provided on a couple of art-related websites, his first solo exhibition was held in 1983, which was inaugurated by Dr Salimuzzaman Siddiqui. Apart from holding a good number of solo shows, Mr Baqar took part in more than 100 group exhibitions. He won his first major prize at the Biennale International Competition in 1988.

He was once quoted to have said, “First painting chose me, then I welcomed painting. I think I am made for painting. My conscious and subconscious leads me to create something.”
