SWAT: The key accused in the murder of a 14-year-old student at a religious seminary in Khwazakhela here have been sent to jail following the completion of their police remand.

According to Moin Fayaz, spokesperson of the District Police Officer, Qari Muhammad Umar, the head of the Chaliyar seminary, and his son Ihsan were presented before the judicial magistrate of Khwazakhela on Wednesday after the conclusion of their two-day physical remand. The court ordered that both be sent to jail.

On July 21, Farhan, a student at the Chaliyar Madressah in Khwazakhela, was allegedly subjected to severe torture and killed for taking some days off from the seminary. According to police, the madressah administrator, Qari Muhammad Umar, along with his associates, beat the boy severely resulting in his death.

“Following public uproar and media attention, the police arrested 11 individuals involved in the incident and sent them to jail. However, the two main accused, Qari Umar and his son Ihsan, had gone into hiding,” he said and added that they were later arrested and produced in court, which initially granted two days of physical remand for police investigation.

With today’s court order, the total number of accused sent to jail in the murder case has reached 13.
