KARACHI: Police on Friday claimed to have recovered a kidnapped minor girl and arrested a suspect within the remit of the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station.

Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi told Dawn that three-year-old Rehana was abducted from Shahnawaz Bhutto Colony on July 23.

Acting on a tip-off and using modern technology, police conducted a successful operation, safely recovered the child and apprehended the prime suspect.

During interrogation, the suspect, who is a relative of the kidnapped girl, disclosed that his brother had earlier been arrested by Manghopir police and sent to prison. He allegedly kidnapped the girl to demand ransom, intending to use the money to secure his brother’s release on bail.

According to the FIR, the girl’s father, Daud Shah, said that his daughter had gone out to buy food from a nearby shop when she disappeared.
