HYDERABAD, May 16: A black day was observed in the Sindh University on Monday in protest against freezing of development funds of three universities of Sindh. At a meeting of the Sindh University Teachers’ Association on Tuesday, office-bearers of the association criticised what was termed indifference of the HEC chairman.

Prof (Dr) Saleem Chandio presided over the meeting.

The meeting said that recent appointments in the Sindh University, Karachi University and the NED were made in accordance with the rules and opposing the decision by the HEC was tantamount to the denial of sanctity of governing bodies’ of the universities.

The SUTA urged the HEC to negotiate with higher authorities of universities on such matters.

“If the HEC remains adamant to its non-flexible policies towards the teaching community and forces universities to enforce its rules without getting approval from the statutory bodies, it will create unrest among teachers and hamper the educational environment”, the meeting said.
