OKARA: A 10-year-old girl died by drowning in a deep ditch filled with rainwater in front of her house.

As per the FIR, land in the Billo Shah locality near Haveli Lakkha was being dug by Ahmad Yar Wattoo and others for sand for sometime and a large ditch was developed there. Many families of the locality repeatedly asked the men to stop and fill it as it was adjacent to houses and could cause an accident, but to no avail.

During the recent heavy rainfall, the ditch filled with rainwater. On the Saturday evening, minor Omme-e-Eman fell into the ditch and drowned. The villagers rushed to retrieve the girl from water but she had died.

On the complaint of victim’s mother Naheed Bibi, a case under section 322 of the PPC was registered by Haveli police against five including Ahmad Yar, Ahmad, Yasin and two other unidentified suspects. The police said the main suspect, Ahmad Yar Wattoo, had been arrested.
