GUJRAT: The Punjab government on Friday posted Noorul Ain Qureshi as the deputy commissioner of Gujrat.

She is said to be the first-ever woman officer to head the district.

Moreover, Asif Raza, a PMS - Grade 18 officer, has been posted as Pakpattan DC as the Punjab government had earlier transferred Pakpattan DC Maria Tariq more than a week ago.

An officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS-BPS 18), Ms Qureshi was serving as additional secretary, finance department.

She had earlier served as assistant commissioner of Gujrat and Wazirabad between 2015 and 2017 whereas her husband, SSP Kamran Mumtaz, a PSP officer of Grade 19, had also served as district police officer of Narowal, Jhelum and Lodharan and is currently serving in Lahore.

The seat of Gujrat DC fell vacant after the Punjab government transferred Safdar Hussain Virk on June 12 and gave the additional charge to Gujranwala DC Naveed Ahmed.

Two women ACs are already working in Gujrat district -- Hubaiba Bilal is currently serving as AC coordination as well as the district monitoring officer and Aisha Gondal as the district head of Peera.

Women are also holding key positions in Sialkot district, with Saba Asghar Ali holding the DC office since May last and four women civil servants as assistant commissioners of Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial.
