LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore, on Thursday initiated the disbursement of Rs3.20 billion among Eden Housing scam victims.

NAB Chairman retired Lt-Gen Nazir Ahmad distributed cheques among the affectees. Speaking on the occasion, the chairman highlighted that the total claims submitted by 11,880 victims against the Eden administration amounted to Rs13bn, however, NAB succeeded in plea bargain of Rs16bn, exceeding the total claimed amount by 23 per cent thereby ensuring enhanced compensation for all the affectees.

He said NAB Lahore had so far recovered Rs11.8bn from Eden authorities, out of which Rs8.6bn had already been disbursed among the victims. With the commencement of the fifth installment of Rs3.2bn, the bureau is recovering the remaining Rs4.2bn.

The NAB chief further said the victims would no longer be required to visit the bureau offices to receive their compensation; instead, the payments will be transferred directly into their bank accounts through a streamlined digital system.

The chairman appreciated NAB Lahore and investigation teams working against illegal housing schemes and noted that since its establishment, the bureau had achieved record recoveries totaling Rs236bn, with Rs233bn disbursed to approximately 94,000 affectees.
