LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) registrar office has raised objections to the maintainability of a petition seeking judicial inquiry into alleged fake police encounters.

A citizen, Muhammad Nadeem, filed the petition.

However, after a preliminary scrutiny, the registrar office objected to the petition, noting that the petitioner was not an aggrieved party and had not approached the relevant redress commission, prior to approaching the court.

The office further observed that the matter was not of urgent nature; therefore, could not be entertained during the court’s summer vacation period.

In the petition, the petitioner contended that too many police encounters were happening in violation of the judicial process. He submitted that daily reports of encounters by the Crime Control Department (CCD) were being published in the media and in most cases the official version states that suspects were killed by firing from their own accomplices.

He argued that such encounters amounted to a gross violation of the constitutional right to a fair trial and due process. He requested the court to summon complete records of all encounters held to date.

The petitioner also urged the court to direct the CCD to immediately halt all such operations. He sought judicial intervention to ensure transparency, accountability, and to uphold the fundamental rights of citizens under the Constitution.
