LAHORE: Din Moham­mad, Pakistan’s first Asian Games gold medallist, pas­sed away after prolonged illness here on Thursday at 89. He was buried at a local graveyard.

Din Mohammad clinc­hed gold in the fly-weight category at the 1954 Asian Games in Manila. Besides the Asian Games gold, Din Mohammad also brought home a bronze medal from the Commonwealth Games.

Born in Jalandhar, India, in 1936, he migrated to Faisalabad, Pakistan, in 1947 and began his wrestling career.

He remained national champion for many years.
