LAHORE: The relatives of a woman, who had allegedly committed suicide in April at her home in Factory Area police precincts lodged a protest on Monday for the registration of her murder case.

They gathered outside the Lahore Press Club and claimed that Shumaila (40) was allegedly murdered while the Factory Area police registered the suicide case.

The protest was organised by the parents of the deceased woman and they blamed that her husband and daughters were misleading the police by providing information of choice.

They said they visited the office of the DIG and other senior police officers but they were not lodging the murder case.

On the other hand, Factory Area Station House Officer Ashfaq Khan rejected the claim of the deceased woman’s parents saying Shumaila’s daughters had themselves claimed it a suicide case and it was later got confirmed by the forensic experts too.

Quoting the initial reports, Mr Khan said the woman had allegedly committed suicide by shooting herself in the chest after locking her in a room of her house at Shaukat Town in April last.

He said the woman’s daughters had alerted the police at that time and then submitted written statements too saying that they broke open the door when their mother locked herself in a room and committed suicide following some domestic issues.

The SHO claimed the daughters of the woman had also rejected the allegations of their maternal grandparents.

Following the conflicting statements of the both sides, Ashfaq Khan said the matter reached the court when the deceased woman’s parents moved an application for the registration of the murder case.

An additional district and sessions judge was hearing the matter to take a final decision, the SHO said.

Instead of waiting for the decision of the court, the parents of the woman took to the streets and lodged a protest to put pressure on the police for the registration of a murder case, the SHO said.
