MANSEHRA: Five people, including four women, were killed and eight others sustained critical injuries when a passenger jeep plunged into a ravine in Jabori area of Siren Valley here on Monday.

“We shifted the bodies and the injured to a nearby health facility after retrieving them from the gorge with the help of locals,” Qazi Majid Naseem, DSP Shinkiari, told reporters.

The jeep was on its way to Jabori, the central headquarters of Siren Valley, from Sundi when the driver, while negotiating a sharp turn on a bumpy road, lost control of the vehicle.

Personnel from the police, Rescue 1122, and locals retrieved the bodies and the injured from the gorge and shifted them to the Rural Health Centre, Shinkiari. The deceased were identified as Khanam Jan, Safia Bibi, Hazifa Bibi, Zatoon Bibi, and Waseem Anwar.

The injured included Mohammad Rafaqat, Mohammad Jan, Mohammad Javed, Fida Hussain, Mawa Jan, Akbar Jan, Halima Bibi, and driver Mohammad Anwar. They were later referred to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, Mansehra.
