PESHAWAR: Advocate Qaiser Zaman was elected president of Peshawar Bar Association as an alliance of lawyer wings of Awami National party and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf outclassed its rival multi-party panel by clinching all the seats in the annual elections.

According to results released by election commissioner for polls Ayaz Afridi late on Tuesday, Mr Zaman, belonging to Malgary Wakeelan of ANP, received 1,112 votes against 624 votes received by his rival Maulana Shamsul Haq, fielded by a multi-party alliance of Jamiat Lawyers Forum, Peoples Lawyers Forum, Muslim League Lawyers Forum, Islamic Lawyers Forum, Justice Forum, Muslim League-Q Lawyers Forum, Young Lawyers Forum and Watanpaal Lawyers Forum, etc.

Saifullah Khalil was elected vice president by getting 858 votes against 773 votes of Amanullah Pirzada.

Similarly, Zahidullah Zahid was elected general secretary after a tough fight as he received 872 votes against 851 votes of his rival Ashfaq Khan Akhunkhel.

Nangialzeb Hastnagar, Faizanullah Chamkani, Imran Khan Orakzai and Amanullah Durrani were elected joint secretary, finance secretary, press secretary and library secretary, respectively.

Moreover, all the four posts of cabinet members were won by candidates of the alliance of Insaf Lawyers Forum and Malgary Wakeelan including Faisal Khan, Mahwish Sana Siddique, Shahzeb Rahim Khan and Ali Iqbal Qazalbash.
