KARACHI: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday suspended five officers of the local government department for not attending the PAC meeting.

The meeting, chaired by PAC Chairman Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, ordered the suspension of chief officer of district council Shaheed Benazirabad, municipal officer of municipal committee Nawabshah and three town officers of town committees.

The meeting reviewed the audit reports of the district councils, town and municipal committees of Shaheed Benazirabad division from 2018 to 2022.

Mr Khuhro expressed anger over the absence of the officers of the LG department in the meeting and issued orders to suspend them.

He said that the officials had shown negligence by not attending the meeting and warned that the officers who failed to provide audit records would be suspended.

The PAC chairman ordered the deputy commissioner to seal the attendance register of the employees of the district council Naushahro Feroze to identify ghost employees in the council and submit a report.

During the examination of the audit paras, it was revealed that 1,200 litres of petrol was issued monthly for the vehicle of the chairman of Sanghar and Rs4.6 million was spent on petrol.

The PAC ordered the local government secretary to investigate the matter and submit a report.
