PESHAWAR: Ten terrorists were killed in as many as five different encounters between security forces and militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday, the military’s media wing said.

According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the first encounter took place during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) against terrorists in Kulachi tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan district, killing four of them.

Security forces killed six terrorists in four different encounters, which took place in the Datta Khel, Hassan Khel, Ghulam Khan and Mir Ali areas of North Waziristan district.

Security forces seized weapons and ammunition from the terrorists killed in the clashes. They were actively involved in numerous activities against members of security forces and killing innocent civilians, the ISPR said.

It said that sanitisation operations were being conducted to eliminate remaining terrorists in the area as security forces were determined to eliminate the menace of militancy from the country.

Earlier on Jan 30, the ISPR said, four security personnel, including a Major, were martyred and 13 militants were killed in two different encounters in North Waziristan district.

The ISPR said that members of security forces conducted an IBO in Mir Ali and attacked a militants’ hideout. During the ensuing clash, six militants were killed. Major Hamza Israr, 29, and 26-year-old Sepoy Muhammad Naeem embraced martyrdom in the encounter.
