SUKKUR: A pair of rare blind dolphins on Friday strayed into Rohri Canal because of annual closure of Sukkur Barrage for desilting, but were soon rescued by wildlife department’s team and released back into Indus River.
The team took three and a half hours to rescue the pair and release them into the river, said deputy conservator Mir Aijaz Talpur.
The rescued mammals were a pair of male and female. The female dolphin was pregnant, weighing 45 kg while the male weighed 35 kg, he said.
The wildlife officials said that they were very vigilant during the barrage closure, which often led to incidents of the dolphins straying into canals, and did not waste time rescuing the animals.
