KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Wednesday reviewed the pace of construction work of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Yellow Line project.

Speaking to the media after inspecting the construction work of a bus depot in Korangi, he said that the Sindh government was constructing a double-story depot and additional space was being reserved within the depot to accommodate a potential third floor.

He said that 346 buses would be parked at this depot in the first phase.

Mr Memon, who is Sindh’s information and transport minister, said that the government had decided to operate electric buses (EVs) on the Yellow Line instead of diesel buses as planned earlier.

“A charging system is being installed at the depot to support this initiative. This will be the first BRT in the country to feature EV buses, offering affordable and high-quality travel facilities to the public,” he said.

He said that the Yellow Line project, initiated with the support of the World Bank, was expected to be completed within two years.

To a question, Mr Memon said that people might face problems in getting vehicle fitness certificates, but it was important to ensure road safety and environmental protection.
