BAHAWALPUR: The Cantonment police on Monday arrested Sheikh Dilshad Ahmed Qureshi, former chairman of the Bahawalpur district council, for his family’s involvement in alleged torture of their maid and her minor son.

Complainant in the case, Sub-Inspector Hazoor Baksh alleged in the FIR that he came to know that the family of Sheijkh Dilshad Ahmed had brutally tortured their maid Shafoo Mai and her eight-year-old son Shakir on theft charges.

The SI alleged that the minor was tortured with a hot knife.

Police spokesperson told Dawn Qureshi was produced before a local court which sent him on judicial remand.

INTERIM BAIL: A local court granted on Monday interim bail before arrest to South Punjab PTI chief Senator Aun Abbas Bappi till Nov 5.

Mr Bappi was apprehended on Oct 2 along with other PTI activists after they lodged protest to demand the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, the interim bail before arrest of former PTI MPA Samiullah Chaudhury was extended up to Nov 5 as the judge concerned was on leave.
