ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination and the British government on Friday agreed to enhance collaboration to tackle climate change and environmental issues in Pakistan.

This agreement was reached during a meeting between Romina Khurshid Alam, coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change and a UK Embassy delegation led by Development Director Jo Moire.

According to a statement issued in this regard, Alam described the collaboration as a significant step in the fight against climate change, highlighting the shared commitment to address this global challenge. Stressing the importance of bridging civil society, academia, and corporate sectors in both nations, she pointed out the necessity of collective efforts to combat environmental degradation.

Khurshid Alam underscored the urgent need for tangible actions to mitigate the impacts of global warming, addressing flood risks proactively and supporting vulnerable farming communities. She noted that shifting weather patterns had significantly affected agricultural productivity, threatening food security and livelihoods. Pakistan has faced billions of dollars in economic losses due to climate-related disasters in recent years.

During the meeting, the UK delegation presented a report aimed at bolstering Pakistan’s climate resilience. Both sides agreed to work together to implement sustainable agricultural practices and mitigate future impacts.

“This collaboration is a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to build a resilient and sustainable future for Pakistan,” said Khurshid Alam.
