QUETTA: A soldier was martyred and another injured when an improvised explosive device went off near a vehicle carrying a contingent of the Frontier Corps (FC) in the city’s Akhtarabad area on Saturday.

The FC personnel were patrolling in the Western Bypass area when the powerful blast rocked their vehicle.

The injured soldier was admitted to the Bolan Medical College Hospital.

The martyred soldier was identified as Adnan.

“The improvised explosive device was detonated by remote control. It contained four kilograms of explosives and was planted at the side of the road,” an official of the police’s bomb disposal squad said.

Sufficient evidence has been collected from the scene, the official added.

The explosion left the vehicle badly damaged.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.
