NAROWAL: A woman was allegedly gang-raped over a monetary dispute here on Saturday at Bhupa village of Shakargarh tehsil.

Reports said labourer ‘I’ complained to the police that he was working in the vegetable market and his wife and children were at home. Upon his return, his wife, a mother of five, told him that during his absence, five suspects entered their house.

According to her, three of them allegedly gang-raped her and fled. She said they also tortured her on offering resistance.

The complainant said he had been involved in a business with a nephew of one of the suspects a year ago, which resulted in a loss of Rs170,000. Although he had managed to repay Rs20,000, the remaining Rs150,000 were still outstanding.

The suspect and his nephew had been demanding the repayment. The complainant said four months ago, the suspect had forcibly taken him to an outhouse and tortured him for not paying the money.

Despite applying for the registration of a first information report, the police did not take action.

Following complainant’s recent application, Kot Neenan police registered an FIR against the five suspects.

Police spokesman Ghulam Mustafa said police were conducting raids to arrest the suspects.
