NAROWAL: The Sialkot Police registered a case against a famous TikToker, his eight accomplices and 45 private security guards over the stampede on his wedding event that killed two persons and injured 18 others the other day. The police arrested six of the suspects booked in the case.
The first information report (FIR) was registered on the complaint of Motra Police Station SHO Mubeen Ahmed. It nominated TikToker Muhammad Ansar (Mr Patlu), his brother Kashif Bashir, Shahid Javed (owner of the Faraz Sports Stadium), Daniyal Munir, Munir Ahmed, Mohsin Ali, Irshad Ali, Abdullah Mehdi and Zohaib Mansha. All of them were organisers of the mehndi ceremony and the prize-distribution event while 45 security guards were posted on the security duty.
On Sunday, another person, identified as Muhammad Rehan, succumbed to his injuries received in the stampede. He was being treated at a public hospital. Earlier on Saturday, Muhammad Aqeel (30), son of Bashir Ahmed, a resident of village Budha Goraya, had passed away. According to the Sialkot police, 18 people were injured in the incident.
TikToker flees; six suspects arrested in the case
The video footage of the incident showed the guards opening the gate of the Faraz Sports Stadium but when the crowd started entering the stadium, a man asked the guards to push the people out. He used a wooden club to push the people out of the stadium gate himself. This caused the stampede, leading to injuries and deaths.
Immediately following the incident, Mr Patlu fled the scene. The police are reportedly conducting raids to arrest him.
During the Rasm-e-Hina and prize distribution event, he had announced distributing 50 motorcycles and a car among the participants through a lucky draw. The Sialkot Police confiscated 50 motorcycles and the car intended for the lucky draw.
According to the Federal Investigation Agency, the suspects faced the charges including violation of the terms of the permit granted by the Sialkot district administration as well as the standard operating procedure (SOP), misuse of loudspeakers, blockade of the main road, vandalism of citizens’ motorcycles and causing loss of life and property.
Due to inadequate security arrangements at the Faraz Sports Stadium, a large crowd managed to enter the venue. Video footage of the incident showed hundreds of attendees at the mehndi and prize distribution ceremony.
During the public gathering, unidentified thieves picked the pockets of attendees, depriving them of cash and important documents.
According to a spokesperson for the Sialkot district administration, a no objection certificate (NOC) was issued to the TikToker for holding a Mehfil-e-Sama (qawwali) during a private event within an enclosed space in Daska. He said the event was cancelled before it could even begin. The NOC specified that the programme was to commence after the Isha prayers but it was started by the organisers as early as 4pm. Upon reviewing the report, Deputy Commissioner Awais Mushtaq revoked the previously issued NOC.
District Police Officer retired Capt Dost Muhammad confirmed that the police had arrested six individuals involved in managing the event while they were trying to arrest all the suspects nominated in the FIR. He said that during the event, an announcement was made on the loudspeakers, instructing all attendees to enter the stadium simultaneously that triggered the stampede.
