PESHAWAR: The district and sessions judges and other judicial officers visited prisons across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the last two days and disposed of the cases of 265 prisoners involved in minor offences.

The accused in those cases were released from prisons and will celebrate Eid with families, according to a news release issued here.

It added that Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim had issued special directives to the district and sessions judges to visit prisons in their respective areas along with magistrates for the disposal of minor nature of cases ahead of Eidul Azha.

Meanwhile, Peshawar district judge Inamullah Wazir visited the Peshawar Central Prison along with additional sessions judge Nadeem Mohammad and judicial magistrate Mohammad Waqar.

The judicial officers held camp court inside the prison and disposed of cases of 85 prisoners, who were then set free.

The district judge went through different portions of the prison and issued directives to the concerned authorities on different matters.

The district judge directed prison authorities to contact the home department without delay for early deportation of prisoners, who were imprisoned under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act and had already completed their prison terms.

He inspected the kitchen and checked the food provided to the prisoners and prison staff members to improve the quality of food.

The judge also inspected the juvenile section and ordered improvement of sleeping spaces for inmates.

He also went to the skill development centre and examined handicrafts and leather goods made by prisoners.

The judge asked prison authorities to devise a mechanism for providing national and international markets with access to the quality products made by the prisoners.
