ISLAMABAD: The formal packaged juice industry aims to boost exports to $100 million by 2028 from $15 million, provided the government eliminates federal excise duty (FED).

The industry has sent a budget proposal to the commerce ministry seeking support for export facilitation. Currently, packaged juices are exported to more than 30 countries across the world.

According to the budget proposal, the domestic juice industry must be on a growth trajectory to increase exports.

The highest potential for exports exists in markets with a huge diaspora.

Local growth is essential to further developing the value chain by attracting investment for better technology, product trials, and product development. If the industry fails to grow, exports will also suffer, it further said.

High taxation puts the rural economy at risk, especially in Punjab. Mango, in addition to other fruits such as kinno, guava, and grapes from different parts of the province, makes up 70pc of the total pulp converted into value-added juices.
