SUKKUR: Dacoits shot dead a shepherd and took away his herd in Mir Hasan Jafferi village within the limits of the Jamal police station of Tangwani town in Kandhkot on Sunday.

Residents of the village and police said that a gang of heavily armed dacoits surrounded the herd and fired a shot to kill the shepherd, Suleman Jafferi, before driving away the herd into the nearby riverine area.

Upon receiving the information, the shepherd’s family and relatives went after the dacoits but when they reached close to them, the dacoits started firing to scare the villagers away.

Four of the villagers, including a woman, suffered bullets wounds and they had to return to their village. A police party later also chased the dacoits but without any success. The area was cordoned off and a hunt for the dacoits was under way till late in the evening.

Jafferi’s body and the wounded villagers were shifted to the Karampur Hospital.
