‘Tariff hike applies only to package beneficiaries’

ISLAMABAD: The Rs25.30 per unit increase approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Friday is the revised marginal rate under the Incremental Consumption Package for industrial and agricultural consumers, the power division said.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the division clarified that this did not amount to an increase in the industrial power tariff, adding that the incremental package had been revised because marginal generation costs rose due to the prevailing US-Iran war.

The statement said that the rise in incremental package rate was temporary and would apply from November 2026.

Commenting on the impact of the Nepra determination, the spokesperson said that the adjustment ensures that the cost of relief under the package is not passed on to other consumers, particularly non-beneficiaries.
