KARACHI: Sale of meat dropped by 50 per cent yesterday [May 10] as a reaction to the news report which said that horse-flesh and donkey’s meat was being supplied by Nawabshah butchers to City markets. Butchers in the City … had to sit till late in the afternoon with large stock of unsold meat. Despite less sale, the price of meat remained unchanged. … A number of consumers said that they did not feel like having meat for at least some more days after the reports that horse and donkey’s meat was sold to them.

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Rome,] the Council of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) has decided to ban Pakistani athletes for three months from international competition because Pakistan allowed Chinese competitors to take part in the Peshawar Games last month. … The IAAF decision was taken in light of a Federation regulation which states that any athlete who knowingly competes against a non-IAAF member is automatically suspended. … China is not a member of the Federation. … IAAF Secretary Fred Holder later said that Egyptian and Iranian athletes who took part in the Peshawar Games had not been disciplined.
