BAJAUR: The local authorities on Wednesday said an anti-polio campaign would be launched in three tehsils of the Bajaur tribal district from May 13.

Polio campaign in Warh Mamond, Lowi Mamond and Nawagai tehsils was postponed after the murder of a policeman escorting the vaccinators in Mamond tehsil on April 30.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting attended by officials of the district administration, the police and health department. Deputy commissioner Mohammad Anwarul Haq chaired the meeting, according to a statement.

The meeting expressed satisfaction over the law and order for conducting the campaign. However, it was decided that foolproof security would be provided to the polio teams to conduct the five-day activity in a peaceful manner.

Speaking on the occasion, Anwarul Haq asked the district police officer to make strict arrangements for the safety and security of vaccinators.

District immunisation officer Dr Fida Mohammad briefed the meeting about the health department’s arrangements for the campaign. He said over 130,000 children would be administered anti-polio drops in three tehsils.

The meeting was informed that over 700 policemen would be deployed for security of polio teams in the areas.
