BAJAUR: A sports gala kicked off in Bajaur tribal district on Tuesday to promote healthy activities among youth.

The colourful inaugural ceremony of Pakistan Sports Festival, organised by the district administration, sports deportment and Frontier Corps (North), was held at the Bajaur Sports Complex in Khar.

On the occasion, players marched along with their respective teams’ flags.

Children of different schools presented tableaus and national songs and got appreciation from the spectators. Local singers and artists also performed during the opening ceremony of the festival.

Speaking on the occasion, district sports officer Taj Mohammad Wazir said that the event was aimed at promoting healthy activities among locals.

He said besides cricket, hockey, football and volleyball, some traditional sports were also part of the festival, which will continue till May 21. He said stalls of different traditional dishes (foods) of four provinces of Pakistan would also be part of the festival.

CARJACKERS ARRESTED: The police recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested three carjackers here on Tuesday.

According to a statement, the vehicle was recovered by a team headed by the DSP investigations from a hilly area of Nawagi town.

A resident had registered a report with the police on April 7, stating that some people snatched his car and a mobile phone from him. The statement said after month-long efforts, the police traced the three people involved in the act with the help of modern technology and were arrested.
