KARACHI: This year a total of 365,102 candidates have registered for the ninth and 10th class exams which will be carried out at 505 examination centres, including one centre inside the Karachi Central Prison where the number of candidates is 22.

This was shared by the Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) Prof Dr Syed Sharaf Ali Shah on Thursday during a media briefing regarding the upcoming exams, which are to commence on May 7.

The Board Chairman further informed that the number of examination centres in government schools is 148 while the number of examination centres at private schools is 357. Meanwhile, the total number of hub centres is 19, which have been established in different towns of Karachi. The officers of the board will be responsible for the delivery of examination papers to the hub centres from where the examination centre superintendents will receive the sealed packets of their respective centres.

Some five exam centres in five towns, namely, Landhi, Lyari, Orangi, Baldia and Keamari have also been declared as ‘sensitive’. Some 50 high level vigilance teams consisting of director schools, additional directors, deputy directors, DEOs and the director general of private schools have been formed. Apart from them, vigilance teams consisting of senior teachers have also been formed who will be present at the centre during the exams.

Bringing mobile phones inside the examination centres will be strictly prohibited. In order to impose a complete ban on the use of photocopy machines during the examination in the vicinity of the examination centres, a letter has been sent to the Commissioner Karachi requesting him to enforce Section 144 in the vicinity of the examination centres. A letter has also been sent to K-Electric regarding ensuring uninterrupted power supply during the examinations. Letters have also been sent to sensitive institutions.

The Board has also printed online computerised admit cards for the convenience of all students and teachers. It was also said that in case any school is facing any problems in getting the admit card online, school heads or their authorised representatives should get the PDF of the admit card from room No.24 of the Board Office after submitting a photocopy of their identity card, office card and authorisation letter.
