TREASURED ARCHIVES: This is with reference to the report ‘Rangers vacate historical Radio Pakistan building after eight years’ (March 19). This was indeed heartening for most of us. Now that the building has been vacated, we look forward to the establishment of a museum of archives that are part of the treasure that Radio Pakistan has accumu- lated since 1947. It will be a source of pride, especially for the young generation, which is not even aware of the role that Radio Pakistan played at various points in the nation’s journey. Indeed, we miss those cultural and social programmes that were accessible to everyone everywhere. The authorities concerned should look into the matter.

DIRTY STREETS: I recently returned to Karachi from Lahore after Eid holidays, and was sad to notice the difference between the two cities in terms of cleanliness. It was disappointing to see that no attempts had been made to clean the city and remove garbage during the holidays. In contrast, the waste management company in Lahore had launched a special cleanliness operation to keep the city clean during the holidays. Why does the city government in Karachi treat the people with such contempt? We deserve to walk the streets without having to be confronted with garbage and filth.

PRIVATE LAW COLLEGES: Law education in Pakistan has become more like a business. Due to a dearth of public-sector law colleges across the country, private institutions have cropped up that charge hefty fee from the students, and thereby deprive those from middle and lower-middle classes of a chance to pursue the education of choice. Moreover, these law colleges take advance fee for upcoming semesters which puts an additional burden on the students as well as their parents. The relevant authorities should do something about the whole affair that is affecting many a student.
