GUTKA ADDICTION: The use of betel nut in the form of gutka and mawa is common in many cities of Balochistan. Unfortunately, these unhealthy and hazardous substances are easily available to children, women, and adults without any restriction whatsoever. Despite efforts to restrict the supply of such harmful substances, the mafias behind the activity ensure their easy availability in the market. The negligent behaviour of the authorities concerned has been causing health issues in the community.

CHITRAL-BOONI ROAD: The Chitral-Booni Road has been in a state of disrepair for over a year now. The decision to remove the entire asphalt instead of fixing the road in stages

has had a devastating effect for the community. Vehicles are getting damaged, houses along the road are constantly covered in dust, and commuters face numerous challenges. The authorities concerned should really take immediate and effective action in this regard.

FAMILY LAWS: This is with reference to the report ‘Man in Lahore gets jail for second marriage sans wife’s permission’ (March 17). The order was passed under the provisions of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance, 1961, that was promulgated by a dictator in clear violation of religious injunctions in this critical matter. The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) should advise the government to do away with the law.

LOCAL BUSES: The coaster buses operating between Karachi and Hub are generally in the hands of careless drivers, and that explains the number of accidents that take place on the route. Moreover, vehicle breakdowns on the highway and on city roads cause traffic jams. The department concerned should check the condition of these buses and impose heavy fine on rash driving.
