Overcoming selfishness

This is regarding the article “Overcoming selfishness” by Mirha Asif (YW, February 17). I agree with the writer’s assertion that egoism and selfishness are natural traits in human beings. However, it is up to each individual how they manage these negative aspects of life and how they interact with others.

The writer reminds us to take control of our negativity and to treat everyone with kindness. It’s not only selfishness that can influence one’s behaviour negatively, but also other traits that may lead to detrimental outcomes.

The article “Overcoming selfishness” by Mirha Asif provides a brilliant lesson: individuals often prioritise their desires over others, which can hurt close relationships over time.

However, the article outlines various strategies to overcome selfishness, which, if followed, can lead to the development of healthier relationships. I appreciate the writer for penning such an insightful article.

Leading by reading

We are living in an age where reading books is not so very common, whereas, in the past, reading was considered the building block of a bright academic future.

In the past, when technology was not so advance, most people read books, much like they use mobile phones today. If it was not a book, they would read some kind of magazine or newspaper.

Unfortunately, this is not the case now. Book readers have decreased significantly and there are several reasons behind that, such as the use of computers, mobile phones, video games and other digital devices that take up most of their time.

However, we can still revive the habit of reading, and take a break from social media for some time, make plans to read books for two hours daily, take notes and understand them.

If you feel that your efforts have brought something new into your life, extend the duration of your reading sessions. You will eventually notice a great change of self-improvement and enlightenment in yourself.

Winter kindness

This is concerning the story “Winter kindness” by Ammar Marfani (YW, February 17). The story taught us that we should prioritise all the important needs of poor people over our own unimportant needs. We must help these people rather than indulge in unnecessary purchases for ourselves, disregarding their plight.
