ANP candidate survives bid on life in Shangla

SHANGLA: Awami National Party candidate for NA-11 Aurangzeb Khan survived an assassination attempt and his guard suffered critical injuries when he came under attack during a door-to-door campaign in his hometown of Mandoria in Martung tehsil here on Monday night, the police said.

Mr Aurangzeb is a former bureaucrat.

Chawga police station SHO Amjad Alam told Dawn on phone thatMr Aurangzeb was busy in his campaign when he came under attack. He added that his personal guard, Asghar Shah, received two bullets, one in the neck and the other in the arm.

The police official said the injured was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Puran, and later shifted to a hospital in Swat for further treatment.

SHO Alam said the police had started an investigation as to who was behind the attack.

District police officer Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada also confirmed the attack on ANP candidate. He said the police had begun a search operation in the area to arrest the attacker(s).
