LAHORE: A police official along with some others attacked a Lesco team for detecting power theft and making video of the electricity meter in the area of Shadiwala (BRB subdivision).

The official and his companions, according to a Lesco spokesman, also injured one of the team members. He said an application against official Arshad and his friends has also been lodged with the police for the registration of a case.

Meanwhile, Lesco teams found 59 power pilferers in various sub-divisions of Defence East Division and 40 pilferers in Lakhhan Sharif area during the anti-power theft campaign.

The high-ups of Defense East Division conducted a checking operation in various sub-divisions and found 59 customers involved in electricity theft, out of which seven suspects were stealing electricity by hooking wires on transmission lines and 10 were pilfering power by tampering with electricity meters, while displays of 14 meters and five meters were completely inactive.

Similarly, seven consumers were using electricity directly from the main supply line despite their power meters were burnt out, and speed of two meters was found to be slow.

In Bedian Road Sub-Division, four people were stealing electricity through hooks and another four through tamper meters; displays of nine connections were unclear while three meters were completely inactive.

In the areas along Airport Road, three people were stealing electricity through hooks and six through tamper meter, while displays of five connections were unclear and two meters were completely inactive.

Similarly, seven meters were found burnt and two were slowed down.

Teams also found 40 power pilferers in Lakhhan Sharif Scheme area, while four were arrested by the local police. All the illegal connections were disconnected and FIR applications have also been submitted with the police. The company has also charged a total of 55,442 units to all the accused in the form of detection bills.
