ISLAMABAD: Mr. Aziz Ahmad, Minister of State for Defence and Foreign Affairs, informed the Senate today [Jan 18] that the Government was fully alive to the situation created by the introduction of a radar system by India on Pakistan Borders, as supplied by United States, and was taking appropriate measures to protect the territorial interests of Pakistan. He was speaking on an adjournment motion moved by Senator Kh. Mohammad Safdar in the Senate today expressing concern over the supply of 19 million dollars worth of radar equipment to India by the [US]. He said Pakistan had received only some spare parts of defence equipment as a result of the lifting of the ban in March. Mr. Aziz Ahmad said after the Indo-China conflict of 1962, the [US] had agreed to supply a radar system to India which could oversee Chinese territory. This system could be utilised by India against Pakistan also.

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Kilometre 101, Egypt,] Egypt and Israel ... signed an agreement here to disengage their armies along the explosive Suez Canal front, 86 days after a ceasefire ended the 1973 Middle East war. The accord was signed in a UN tent posted on the truce line.
