SWAT: The district administration on Friday banned debris dumping on the roadside here for two months.

The ban comes under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on people’s complaints to ensure smooth vehicular traffic and prevent road accidents, according to district magistrate Dr Qasim Ali Khan.

He said those dumping construction materials, debris, stones and rubble alongside national highways, roads, and squares would be dealt with strictly.

The administration also banned the felling of trees voicing concern over deforestation and its impact on climate change.

It also stopped residents from using chainsaw and other power tools to chop down trees in the region’s private and protected areas.

The administration warned violators of the ban would be acted against under Section 188 of the PPC.

It also banned riverbed mining in the district for 60 days under Section 144 to protect the Swat River’s ecosystem.

The ban was slapped by district magistrate Dr Qasim Ali Khan over “severe threats to aquatic life, health problems due to stagnant water, and potential damage to dams and public property to mitigate the adverse effects of illegal mining and prevent monsoon flooding.”

The administration promised strict action against ban violators.

Also in the day, Section 144 was imposed in Swat district banning firing in the air and fireworks for 60 days.

The ban will ensure a peaceful atmosphere and public safety, according to the district administration.

It said the move came over concerns about “disturbances during celebrations and danger to human lives.”

The administration said violation of the ban would lead to legal consequences against culprits under Section 188 of the PPC.

It said it was committed to environmental conservation, public safety, and the overall well-being of residents.

The administration urged people to adhere to restrictions to “foster sustainable practices and a secure community environment.”
