LAHORE: The police claimed to have arrested the ringleader of the alleged robbers who had looted some Sikh pilgrims in Gulberg a couple of days back.

The suspects had disguised themselves as police personnel when they stopped Kanwal Jeet Singh and his family who had arrived here from India to participate in the celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary.

The Sikh family was shopping in Gulberg area when the suspects in police uniform intercepted them in the name of security clearance and took away Rs400,000 cash and jewelry belonging to the foreigners.

The incident was noticed by Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and police high-ups when it was flashed on social media and invited criticism of Lahore police’s performance and security arrangements made for the foreigners.

The police claim that the ringleader of the gang, identified as Ahmad Raza, has been arrested, while raids were being conducted for the arrest of other members of the network.
