DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A three-day sports gala concluded at the Gomal University’s Tank campus on Monday.

Gomal University Vice-Chancellor Prof Shakeebullah was the chief guest at the colorful concluding ceremony.

Director Tank campus Dr Ehsanullah Danish was also present.

Addressing the event, Prof Shakeebullah congratulated the director Tank campus and his team for involving students in such a healthy activity.

He said provision of all possible facilities to the students of Tank campus was among his priorities. He said organising healthy and positive co-curricular activities and various seminars for students would continue.

The vice-chancellor said the Gomal University’s Tank campus was not less than a blessing for the residents of Tank and South Waziristan districts.

He said the university was making efforts to construct own building of the campus.

Dr Shakeebullah distributed trophies and prizes among the players.

Meanwhile, a man died and his two children and an uncle sustained injuries when a speeding oil tanker hit their motorcycle on Dera-Darya Khan Road.

A police official said the deceased was identified as Ilyas Hussain, 30.

The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Dera.

The driver of the tanker managed to escape from the scene.

The police registered a case against the unknown tanker driver.

Separately, the police arrested two drug peddlers on Monday and recovered 400 grams heroin from their possession.

A police official said a team of cantonment police station arrested Rajab Ali and Mohammad Ramzan and recovered 190 and 210 grams of heroin from them, respectively. The police registered separate cases against them.

Meanwhile, officials of a local sugar mills on Monday met district police officer Abdul Rauf Babar Qaisrani to discuss the traffic-related issues in the wake of the start of sugarcane crushing season.

A police official said the DPO directed the mills authorities to ensure the use of designated routes for tractor-trolleys carrying sugarcane to the mills to avoid traffic congestion.
