KHYBER: Electricity supply to entire Landi Kotal was suspended when a huge pylon fell on the ground near Shahgai area in Jamrud on Monday night.

Local grid officials said the pylon fell when some old and rusted electricity cables ruptured due to strong winds.

They said the repair of old electricity cables and the damaged pylon was immediately started, and they expected to restore power supply in one week.

They said a new power pylon would replace the broken one, for which machinery had been shifted to the site.

Local residents, however, criticised the Tribal Areas Electricity Supply Company for failure to replace the rusted cables, which often resulted in power supply suspensions.

They said nearly half a dozen power pylons had fallen to

the ground in almost the same locality during the last one and a half year, but no remedial measures were taken to avoid occurrence of such incidents.
