KOHAT: Kohat deputy commissioner Dr Azmatullah Wazir has ordered an inquiry against the police for allegedly taking bribe from both the documented and undocumented Afghan refugees housed in the Ghulam Banda camp.

He has also constituted a committee to ensure that Afghans faced no trouble while going back to their homeland.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Wazir said they had so far traced 1,600 undocumented refugees, out of whom 700 had been sent back.

He said the committee headed by him also included Afghan affairs administrator Qudratullah Marwat, district police officer Farhan Khan and assistant commissioners of all the tehsils to ensure that repatriation process was carried out in a respectable manner.

Mr Wazir said strict instructions had been issued to all the officials not to create any hurdles for the undocumented refugees going back to their homeland.

Meanwhile, over 400 staff of the Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) again boycotted their duties on Tuesday in protest against non-payment of salary for last three months.

President of WSSC workers’ association Mohammad Sohail said the three months salary of the employees amounted to Rs25.5 million. He said last month when the workers stopped operating tubewells, deputy commissioner Dr Azmatullah Wazir had promised that salaries would be released this month, but to no avail.

The WSSC deputy general manager didn’t attend calls to know his version on the matter.
