What can I do?

It is indeed painful to watch such a horrific slaughter of human beings from afar. Yet there are some things that we sitting here in Pakistan can do to express solidarity with the innocent people of Palestine.

These include:

• Basic empathy. These are human beings who are being targeted, so it is imperative for us to feel their pain, and pray that their suffering ends soon.

• Read up on the history of Palestine. A lot of people are blaming the victims for their plight, so it is important to read books and articles; listen and watch podcasts by renowned scholars and intellectuals that can tell the true story of Palestine. Here, it is important to consult non-Western, particularly Arab and Palestinian sources, to cut through the pro-Israel bias in most Western media.

• Attend protests and seminars organised in your city to express solidarity with the Palestinians.

• Look up which legitimate charities are involved in sending relief goods to Palestine and participate as much as possible in these efforts by either donating money or volunteering.

• Discuss with your parents which firms are openly supporting Israel and helping it perpetuate its occupation and violence against Palestinians. Take part in intelligent boycotts and refuse to purchase products from such firms.
